Faculty Retention-Mentoring Leading to Promotion and Tenure |
As a guide, advisor, coach, colleague, and role model, a mentor can help faculty members in higher education make smooth and continuing progress as they advance from naïve novice to distinguished professor. The literature on
mentoring increasingly stresses how vitally important it is for entrants into the academic ranks to learn "the rules of the game" and how to navigate these in order to advance and achieve. This session will describe the various roles that mentors can serve within the academy. In addition, this presentation will delve further into the trials and tribulations of professional development through the eyes of two individuals: One who has endured the political twists-and-turns of earning both tenure and promotion,
the other who is facing the same prospective roller coaster ride. |
