MASSPEC Day: Video Fitness Games: If You Can’t Beat ‘Em, Join ‘Em |
One of the challenges related to the current obesity epidemic is helping sedentary youngsters discover enjoyable alternatives to organized sports. This session will demonstrate a variety of movement-inspired video games such as Dance Dance Revolution (DDR), and Eye Toy that youngsters can play at home. It will also demonstrate how monitoring devices such as heart rate monitors and pedometers are being used to assess the workout youngsters receive while playing these games. The focus will be on demonstrating how these video-fitness games can be introduced to encourage youngsters to voluntarily participate in physical activity. |
