A New Major: Integrated School Health and Physical Education |
The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse has developed an innovative pilot program for preparing teachers for school health education and physical education that is designed to remove the artificial separation between these subjects. Traditionally, students preparing to teach in both subjects have had the choice of completing a double major or majoring in one subject and minoring in the other. This new program offers prospective teachers a different way to see and study health and physical education, as well as to learn a different approach to teaching them. Presentation includes integration of content standards, pilot curriculum, and implications for PK-12 curriculum. |
