Science-Based Physical Education: Designing Physically Active Problem-Solving Lessons |
Lessons featured in this session are from the NIH funded BE ACTIVE KIDS!! project that is designing, implementing, and testing 90 science-based physical education lessons with diverse children (grades 3-5) in urban school settings. In this session, lessons from the “Mickey’s Mighty Muscles” unit emphasizing science concepts related to muscular strength and endurance will be highlighted. Lessons based on the 2004 NASPE and National Science Standards focus on physically active problem solving, guiding students through the 5 “Es” of engagement, exploration, explanation, elaboration, and evaluation. Example lessons, handouts and websites will be provided to participants. |
