Fostering Change in the Present: Incorporating the Stages of Changes with Substance Users
Collaboration between the DuPage County Drug Court and the DuPage County Health Department has resulted in a dynamic program targeting high-risk populations. This partnership provides a comprehensive approach to providing services. The Health Department meets regularly with clients involved in the Drug Court program at the county courthouse to provide harm and risk reduction counseling along with skills-based prevention and education activities. The health education activities include case studies, critical thinking activities, values continuum activities, and decision-making activities to encourage participants at various levels using the Stages of Change theory.
