Lightning Safety for the Sport, Recreation and Physical Activity Professional |
Lightning safety is an important management issue for recreation, sport and physical activity professionals. Outdoor sport and recreational activities often have the greatest risk of death or injury from lightning. A key reason is that these activities occur most often at times of the day and season when there is the highest probability of lightning. Several national associations (e.g. the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), and the American Meteorological Society (AMS)) have developed lightning safety recommendations. The purpose of this presentation is to provide the sport, recreation, and physical activity professional with information relevant to the management of lightning risk. |
