Mental Skills Training: Where to Start |
Coaches are forever telling their athletes to relax and focus and not to think, but rather react during competition. They have the athletes spend countless hours practicing physical skills, while ignoring the mental aspects of their sport. Coaches do not practice mental skills such as, positive self-talk, thought-stopping, and relaxation for several reasons including; time restraints, the coach feeling uncomfortable teaching mental skills, and information not being concrete or easily implemented into practice. This session will provide a “hands on” nuts and bolts program for coaches to begin a mental skills training program. |
