Gender Equity in 9th Grade Physical Education Classes |
The results of a survey of almost 1000 9th grade physical education students will be presented. Results indicate that males and females generally prefer different physical education activities, that they strongly favor coeducational groupings for all activities, and that a significantly higher percentage of boys than girls consider physical education to be one of their favorite classes. The results strongly suggest that secondary physical educators and university pedagogy faculty support the coeducational intent of Title IX and that proactive steps are needed to insure that the needs of females are better addressed in secondary physical educational classes. |
