Dietary and Physical Activity Behaviors at a Midwestern University

Susan M. Moore1, Jamie L. Johnson2 and Nancy Parsons2, (1)Western Illinois University, Good Hope, IL, (2)Western Illinois University, Macomb, IL

Obesity and physical inactivity have been identified as serious threats to the health of U.S. citizens. Using the National College Health Risk Behavior Survey (NCHRBS) (CDC, 1995), this study identified the dietary and physical activity behaviors of college students at a four-year Midwestern university. This survey was conducted through university email using a simple random sample of full and part-time traditional and non-traditional undergraduate students. Results of this study will better enable university professionals to provide services and health education programs geared toward reducing the risk of obesity among the student population at this Midwestern university.
