New Understanding, Concepts, Methods and Controversy of Validity and Reliability |
There have been major changes in understanding validity and reliability, important psychometric features. Validity is no longer considered a single, separate concept. Rather, validity evidence must be cumulated and integrated with consideration of the test’s consequences. Similarly, reliability is no longer considered a test characteristic but rather, the property of examinees. Finally, new theories (e.g., IRT) and statistical methods (e.g., SEM) have been developed, but how to use them appropriately in construction/validation have not been well described. The purpose of this symposium is to provide an update of changes and provide guidance on test validation conducted under new theoretical framework. |
