Can We Talk? Addressing Homophobia and Heterosexism in Public Schools and Universities
The purpose of this session is to provide LGBT and allied students, public school and university educators with a forum for openly discussing the myriad issues facing Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, and Transgendered individuals in the education setting. In roundtable format, small groups will be given various “real life” scenarios to discuss and to identify productive ways to manage homophobia and heterosexism in schools and universities. Group facilitators will then “report out” to the larger group for further discussion. Participants will leave the session with an array of proactive strategies to address such concerns in his/her own workplace environments.
