The Proliferation of Legalized Gambling: Implications for Health Education |
This session reviews issues related to the rapid expansion of gambling in this country. An overview of historical points will be provided, along with arguments both in support of and against gambling as a publicly sanctioned activity. Discussion will identify the economic rationale for gambling's proliferation and the positive implications it may provide on health and social well-being. Discussion will also cover the negative consequences of gambling, including addiction and its related social ills. Finally, a review of how gambling trends effect health education, from expanding curriculums to innovations in public health policy, will be presented. |
