NASPE and AALR: Working Together in Leisure Education |
Numerous pre-service physical education programs emphasize traditional models of skill acquisition and sport participation while minimizing or ignoring leisure concepts. An examination of the content standards in physical education as developed by NASPE, clearly indicates (in standard #3) the necessity of leisure education in schools, since a physically educated person is to "exhibit a physically active lifestyle." In many instances, the recognition of the leisure component has been minimal or non-existent. AALR is in a position to assist in the development of pre-service programs to insure that standard #3 is adequately addressed. |
