Afro-Cuban Roots of Salsa |
This workshop is based on the presenter's studies in Havana that were offered by the Union of Cuban Artists and Writers, in conjunction with Global Exchange. Slides documenting the classes and visits to cultural institutions will emphasize African and Spanish influences that are deeply entwined in Cuban culture, including the evolution of Afro-Cuban dance. The participatory section will explore stylistic elements of the exhilarating Salsa that are currently popular in Havana. This workshop will further NDA's goal of promoting the greater understanding of cultures through dance. |
