Current Status of Complementary and Alternative Health Practices in the US: Implications for Health Education Professionals |
Studies reveal that complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) has gained in popularity in recent years due to the increasing demand from consumers. This session will present the prevalence and reasons of CAM use, the sources of CAM information/services/products, and the communication of CAM use to health care providers. To provide health education professionals with basic knowledge of CAM, various CAM modalities will be introduced including their rationale, common uses, available scientific evidence, and the need for further research on the efficacy of many CAM modalities. The role of health education professionals in CAM research and practice will be addressed. |
