The Role of Culture in Health Promotion: Theory and Research |
The purpose of this presentation is to explore the theoretical underpinnings and research base on the role of culture in health education and to highlight gaps in research and application. An overview of the role of culture and health policy in health education will be discussed. Also, discussions on key sources of research on cultural aspects of health education will be provided. Research has confirmed that effective programming requires a careful examination of culture; therefore, factors that influence culture of schools as settings for school-based health education and health promotion initiatives will be discussed. |
