Muscle enhancement product use as a function of muscle esteem and physical appearance satisfaction was examined in a college population. A sample of 301 undergraduates were asked to list any over the counter (OTC) products they were currently or recently using to help build muscle mass. The students also completed measures designed to assess their level of satisfaction with their overall physical appearance and specifically with their physique and musculature. Over 21% (n=65) of respondents reported use of OTC muscle enhancement products. Users of such products scored significantly higher on muscle esteem. Male students reported significantly higher product use than females 43% (n=53) vs. 7% (n=12).
