Hiring and Retaining Women in Coaching Positions
This session is designed for coaches, athletic directors and administrators interested in understanding issues influencing career longevity for women coaches. The first portion focuses on human resource management practices with particular emphasis on selection techniques for enhancing fit of incoming coaches. The second portion focuses on findings from a qualitative, multiple case study involving four women who coach traditionally male dominated sports at the collegiate level. The two presentations will be followed by a discussion of practical strategies and solutions for enhancing career longevity and minimize the career challenges facing women coaches.
