Tobacco Use Prevention
The first presentation focuses on the Maine State Department grants to 31 communities with tobacco settlement money to implement community-based tobacco prevention programs for five-year cycle, describing a health promotion intervention that was initiated in Central Aroostook County to reduce smoking rate in the community. The second presentation centers on “A Comprehensive School and Community Approach to Teen Tobacco Cessation.” Maine’s program which addresses teen tobacco cessation with a comprehensive school and community approach. Coordinated by a partnership, including the American Lung Association of Maine and the Bureau of Health, the program involves regional community project directors and school health coordinators who serve as the delivery system.
