Caring Pedagogy: Integrating Content and Community |
Caring Pedagogy is committed to creating a classroom where the development of "community" is explicitly stated as a primary goal. Educational theorists from Dewey (1916) to Giroux (1987) envision the possibility of teaching students to develop a "critical perspective". Characteristics that are often related to this concept are "empowerment", "student voice", and "emancipatory classrooms". The position taken in this presentation is that for undergraduate teacher education students to develop these characteristics the classroom must be built on the concepts of caring about each other in a community of learners. |
