The American Indian Mascot Issue: Identifying the Problem, Owning Responsibility, and Demonstrating Leadership |
Increasingly, educators are being asked to reflect on the (in)appropriateness of using American Indian stereotypes as the primary source of identity for schools and their athletic teams. Leading experts on this issue will provide an overview of the public policy initiatives and educational concerns that have been expressed in recent years about the American Indian mascot issue and offer insight into the importance of dealing with this issue within school settings. Additionally, special attention will be given to creating opportunities for workshop participants to discuss problems, approaches, and solutions. |
