Progress or Regress?: Status of African American Women in Intercollegiate Athletics |
With the passage of affirmative action, the Civil Rights Act of 1991, and Title IX one would anticipate an increase in the status of African American women as athletic administrators and coaches in intercollegiate athletics.
The purpose of this session is to investigate the progression or regression of African American women as athletic administrators and coaches in intercollegiate athletics. The impact of Title IX and the existence of the glass ceiling effect during their career progression will also be examined. Suggestions for change will be discussed. Strategies and recommendations for recruiting and retaining African American women will be provided. |
