TARGETing Motivation |
This presentation will address contemporary motivation theory using Nicholls' achievement goal theory (1984, 1989) as a foundation. Physical educators and athletic team coaches will develop an understanding of contemporary motivation. Special attention will be given to how physical education teachers and coaches can create motivational climates, using TARGET principles, that enhance adaptive motivation patterns (as evidenced by a desire to learn, to improve existing skills, and to persist when challenged) in students and athletes of all levels, thereby increasing opportunities for success. Additionally, session participants will have the opportunity to put the TARGET principles into action. |
