Destigmatizing Mental Illness
One out of five people will be struck by mental illness at some point in their lives, many during adolescence or young adulthood. But according to the Surgeon General little more than a third will seek treatment because of the stigma which surrounds mental illness. Tragically a significant number will lead marginal lives, only seeking help when a crisis finally forces them into treatment. The goal of this workshop is to consider ways to destigmatize mental illness so that more people will seek treatment early on when they can be most successfully treated.
