Why Kids Participate
This session is based on the results of an intramural and youth sports study conducted at 21 middle schools involving 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys and girls. Factors examined included: the most important reasons for participation, favorite activities, reasons why an individual stopped playing, changes that need to be made to get an individual playing again and feelings about playing vs. winning. School, gender, and grade level disaggregate the data. The results provide valuable insight into what our youth really want in the way of activities and what prohibits them from participating. |
