Community-Campus Health Partnerships: Organizing to Serve and Learn |
College students preparing for careers in health education are expected to demonstrate competencies in that role. Yet, most competencies are taught didactically, with only minimal classroom practice of skills. In such an instance, knowledge regarding these competencies can be learned, but the actual competence may not follow. An opportunity for students to apply skills learned during their professional preparation programs, with actual populations off-campus, can be provided through the development of community-campus partnerships. The presenter's experience in developing and maintaining such a partnership revolving around health issues will be presented and generalized to other settings. |
