Anatomy of a SAFE Playground Session & Tour
This presentation will introduce all persons concerned with the developmental advantages of play for all children (recruiters, elementary physical educators, administrators, and maintenance personnel) to the concepts of SAFE play. The session demonstrates the effect of supervision, the changes in play patterns that appropriate design can make, the recent research basis for impact attenuating surfaces, and the maintenance and installation of SAFE play structures. Participants examine strategies to create and/or change current environments in parks and schools. A tour (lunch included) of playground sites in the San Diego area will follow the workshop from 12:30 to 5:00.
