Team Building within Academic Units |
It has been argued that the effectiveness of academic units in universities (i.e., departments, colleges, schools) depends upon the development and nurturing of a “team culture.” Team building can assist with the development of this culture. Successful team building interventions require a culture that supports a team approach, teams that are receptive and prepared to undertake the process, resources to aid the process, and leaders who are aware of the building blocks of effective teamwork. The purpose of this presentation, therefore, is to acquaint academic administrators with fundamental team building processes, components and recommendations. |
