Rule Violations in Intercollegiate Athletics: A Coach's Perspective |
The numerous rule violations in intercollegiate athletics have been well documented. These studies all suggest there has been a rise in violations and a decline in ethical behavior in intercollegiate athletics, particularly at the NCAA Division I level, with the most violations attributed to recruiting practices. Various perspectives have been utilized to explain the problem. Rarely, however, have coaches' views and opinions been included in discussions of rule violations.
The objectives of this presentation are to: a) describe coaches' perceptions regarding recruiting inequities, b) investigate methods that coaches use to resolve these inequities, and c) discuss potential approaches for reducing recruiting violations. |
Keyword(s): college level issues, sport management, standards and ethics
