Responsibilities and Rewards of University Partnerships with Underserved Commmunities |
Partnerships between university classes and local community groups can result in both students and residents becoming empowered to develop skills, achieve goals and make a difference in the health status of others. This program highlights four effective and long-standing partnerships that were developed specifically as service learning projects that met community needs while providing students with an opportunity to practice professional program skills from asset identification to evaluation. Using these successful partnerships as case studies, two seasoned faculty members will provide the participants with a set of practical tips to create win-win partnerships, avoid pitfalls, overcome barriers, and reap the rewards of a successful program. |
