Preventing Youth Violence through Developing Social Capital
The escalation of youth violence has been alarming to our nation. By placing violence prevention in a public health perspective, this presentation seeks to alter the conventional views on resorting to punishment in dealing with the problem. The session will provide information to promote a focus on actions for early prevention and intervention. The presentation will include: examination of data related to youth violence, identifying major factors contributing to violent behavior among youth, and discussing methods of investment in social capital for promoting a culture of "care" with an environment of less chance for violence.
