Struggling for Cultural Competence: Linking Theory to Practice in Health Education/Health Promotion |
Multicultural health education is becoming more complex, and comprehensive while its practice continues to be rather unsophisticated, and fragmentary. The purpose of this presentation is to present different aspects of the health education enterprise in which multicultural advocates share their experiences of bridging theory to practice and to engage in constructive dialogue on different ways to systematize the implementation of elements of multiculturalism into our work as health educators. They will elaborate on ways in which they have struggled to bridge theory to practice, how they have conceptualized and actualized multicultural component in their work, and articulate what they embody and personify as principles of cultural competence. |
