Quantity and Quality of Sleep Among College Students
As a nation, we obtain 20% less sleep than our ancestors 100 years ago. Poor sleep habits are associated with higher accidental death and disability at any age, but particularly among college-aged individuals. Poor sleep habits and sleep disorders begin during adolescence and are culturally reinforced. Poor sleep contributes to negative attitudes, depression, and a myriad of mental health problems but there is relatively little attention to this important health issue in health textbooks. You will learn the basics of good sleep patterns, how to recognize sleep problems, and provide information that will enhance the quantity and quality of sleep in this session.
