The Stronger Women Get, The More Women Get Paid to Play
The overall purpose of this session is to examine the emergence of professional women's sports. An emphasis will be placed on the new women's professional soccer and football leagues. Descriptive data about women's professional football players will be presented, including information about reasons for participating, sport backgrounds, and barriers that the athlete/team has faced. The session strives to meet the following objectives: (1) To create awareness about the challenges and successes for women's professional athletes; (2) To discuss marketing strategies and media coverage for women's professional sports; (3) To generate ways that AAHPERD professionals can help these female athletes.
