Closing the Gap: Actions to Reduce Socioeconomic Disparities in Health
Variations in education, occupation and income as indicators of socioeconomic inequality have long been associated with disparities in health status. The purpose of this presentation is to discuss that health status depends significantly on the socioeconomic class. The elevated risk among the socioeconomic disadvantaged is largely due to the prevalence of health risk behaviors among those of lower level of education and income who are living in conditions not conducive to health. Recommendations will be made for taking actions to reduce inequalities in health and creating public policy to include health education for promoting public health.
