Evaluating Preservice Teachers' Attitudes and Dispositions: Mentioning the "Unmentionables" |
This session will explore the use of attitudes and dispositions for screening pre-service physical education teacher education candidates. Since the reputation of a teacher preparation program is built by the quality of its graduates, programs are becoming increasingly more selective with the persons allowed to continue in the program. Attitudes and dispositions are often very important indicators of future teaching success. Several important questions concerning definition of dispositions in terms of observable behavior, when to begin the screening process, and the legality of doing so will be raised and addressed in this session. Some potential solutions will be offered in conclusion to the program. |
