Choosing the Grading System that Facilitates Learning |
Instructors usually evaluate what they consider to be the most important student behaviors or performances for a course. However, the grading system may work against meeting the objectives associated with specific learning and assessment activities. The likelihood that students meet course objectives may vary with the type of grading system employed. The purpose of the presentation is to challenge instructors to consider employing other grading systems than those generally presented in undergraduate measurement and evaluation courses. An example using two grading systems will be presented: one using percentage of points earned and one using a "mapping rule" between partner portfolio and written examination scores. |
