NAGWS General Session
Come and join your colleagues by finding Power in Partnership! Dr. Carolyn Mitchell will be honored as the 2002 Rachel Bryant Award Lecture recipient and the NAGWS General Session keynote speaker. Mitchell will anchor this awards program, recognizing recipients of the NAGWS Honor Award, Presidential Award, Nell Jackson Award, and the Pathfinder Award. Mitchell has served as an elected and appointed leader in crucial Alliance positions, including AAHPERD Board of Governors, NAGWS President, and President of Texas AHPERD, as well as chair of several national committees. Her numerous contributions to the AAHPERD, and related professional structures at all levels, attests to her recognized ability and demonstrated responsibility for leadership in our profession. Her professional peers have acknowledged her competence by continually placing her in influential professional service positions. Many esteemed honors have been awarded to Mitchell for her professional achievements, included are the NAGWS Honor Award (‘95), NAGWS Project Acclaim Award for Mentorship and Encouragement of Young Professionals (‘94), David K. Brace Award by Texas AHPERD (‘93), Southern District AHPERD Honor Award (‘92), NAGWS Pathfinder Award (‘92), NAGWS Presidential Award (‘91), USA Olympic Academy XII Scholarship Recipient (‘88), Texas Foundation for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Distinguished Service Award (‘83), and the Texas AHPERD Honor Award (‘81). Mitchell was also awarded the Distinguished Professional Woman at Stephen F. Austin State University (‘89), and was nominated twice as a Regents Professor (‘90, ‘91).
