GirlForce: A Health and Fitness Community Initiative
GirlForce is an outreach and prevention program for adolescent girls that promotes physical fitness, healthy eating habits, self-esteem and smoking abstinence. The goal of the program is to prevent the leading causes of chronic disease and preventable death in women. The program incorporates a workshop focused on vigorous physical exercise, interactive discussion on media and body image, smoking facts and refusal skills, interactive discussion on healthy eating patterns, mentoring, social service, medical, and fitness resources for parents. This session will focus on program delivery, a sample particpation session, and a program outcome report. In addition, participants will learn how they can become part of the GirlForce programming for their community.
