C.H. McCloy Research Lecture and Breakfast Banquet: The Emerging Field of Physical Activity and Public Health |
Barbara E. Ainsworth, Ph.D., M.P.H., the 2002 C.H. McCloy Lecturer, will discuss “The Emerging Field of Physical Activity and Public Health.” Dr. Ainsworth is an Associate Professor in the Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina (USC). She holds faculty appointments in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the Department of Exercise Science and is the Director of the USC Prevention Research Center. Dr. Ainsworth is a fellow of the AAHPERD Research Consortium, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education. She is also a member of Delta Omega, an honorary society for Public Health. She has served as Vice President for ACSM, President of the AAHPERD Research Consortium, and Chair of the Prevention Research Center's National Program. Dr. Ainsworth was selected for the 1997 and 2001 Scholar Lectures for the Research Consortium, the 2001 Southeast ACSM Henry J. Montoye Scholar Award, and was the recipient of the Arnold School of Public Health 2000 Outstanding Researcher Award. She has published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals on the assessment of physical activity, physical activity and health, and determinants of physical activity in minority populations. She is the recipient of federal cooperative agreements to study physical activity and public health. Dr. Ainsworth serves on the editorial board for Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport and is a section editor for Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise. She also participates in the World Health Organization activities to standardize physical activity assessment methods worldwide. |
