Movement Literacy: Using Dance to Teach Academic Concepts
A four hour workshop that has two goals:(1)Delving into the body/mind connection by working with the motor basis of learning- - a theory that is being researched by neuroscientists, and which is described in Education on the Edge of Possibility by Renate and Geoffrey Caine. Participants will begin to translate academic concepts into movement through an exploration framework that begins with a motivation; (2) Guided by the National Standards for Dance and the National Standards for Middle School English and Literature, simple poetry generated from the Bio-Poem that middle shcool students often write is the basis for a guided choreographic process.
