Weighing In: Body Image vs. Weight/Eating Disorders Prevention Education Program
Participants will focus on two sides of an important health issue: the obesity epidemic and the importance of self-acceptance and body image appreciation. Current understandings regarding both obesity and body image, including unreasonable expectations regarding the effect of dieting and exercise on appearance, will be presented followed by appropriate teaching strategies. The "Healthy Body Image: Teaching Kids to Eat and Love Their Bodies Too!" program promotes healthy body images and prevents disordered and unhealthy eating habits for students in grades 4, 5 and 6. Learn about this innovative program and the implications of this prevention model for teachers, administrators and parents.
