Addressing Adolescent Health Issues: Violence, Depression and Suicide in High SchoolStudents
Participants will learn about 3 model programs. Silence the Violence, a middle school peer education program, teaches students anger management and conflict resolution skills and uses a social marketing campaign for school/community. Culture of Lawfulness, a binational effort with Mexico, is a high school crime prevention program that can change student awareness and attitudes. The third model program looks at teen depression, suicide and violence by identifying risk factors and symptoms as well as interventions and treatment. Family structure, community issues and school perspectives will be explored. High school health education lessons will be offered.
