The Lolas E. Halverson Memorial Lecture and Young Investigator Award |
Dr. Nancy Getchell, the 2001 Halverson Young Investigator Award honoree will present her research. Dr. Getchell's research examines the development of inter-limb and intra-limb coordination using a dynamical systems perspective. She studies gait, gait transitions, as well as multi-limb coordination. The 2002 Lolas E. Halverson Young Investigator Award recipient will be presented at the end of the session.
Dr. Getchell focuses on the development of fundamental gross motor skills, with an emphasis on different forms of gait. Currently, she is examining the effects of attention on adopted coordination patterns when children simultaneously perform upper and lower limb tasks. She has coauthored the third edition of Life Span Motor Development with Dr. Kathleen Haywood from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Dr. Getchell is an assistant professor at the University of Delaware in the Department of Health and Exercise Sciences. |
