Exploring Sport - Related Games Instruction: Applications for Physical Education Instructors, Youth Sport Coaches, Teacher Educators and Researchers |
Researchers interested in motor development and pedagogy have proposed new approaches to games instruction. Two approaches have emerged: Games for Understanding (GFU) and Mastery Learning (ML). GFU integrates a problem solving approach to games teaching that combines tactics and skills. ML approach suggests developing basic motor skills followed by simple game strategies that foster motor and cognitive skills during game play. This workshop will provide hands-on instructional techniques for practitioners and discuss the philosophy emcompassing each teaching modality. Discussion regarding both approaches will include strengths, weaknesses, and common ground issues. |
