Save the Children conducts afterschool and summer programs, comprised of literacy, physical activity and nutrition (Healthy Choices), and family engagement, in underserved rural communities in the U.S. Implemented by well-trained and supported local paraprofessionals, Healthy Choices uses evidence-based curricula and best practices to provide elementary-aged children with a healthy snack, 30 minutes of moderate-vigorous physical activity, and nutrition education lessons and activities. Outcomes for children are aerobic capacity and nutrition knowledge. (CEU)
