With the development of standards, the role of assessment should have changed. Whereas in the past evaluation was only done at the conclusion of learning, with standards-based learning teachers began using formative assessments to determine whether students learned. Several misconceptions about assessment have been noted by teacher educators when teaching assessment from a standards-based perspective. This presentation will explore these misconceptions and help teachers set criteria for competent performance in this standards-based paradigm.
