This tutorial provides attendees with facts and tips to help avoid common pitfalls that can slow the process of acquiring institutional review board (IRB) approval to conduct human subject research. Topics will include the role of an IRB, determining what constitutes human subject research, informed consent, child assent, parental consent, passive consent, privacy, confidentiality, minimal risk, and issues brought forward by attendees.
