NDA celebrates the prestigious dance career of Dianne Walker by presenting her with the Heritage Award. Dianne’s lifetime of dedication to the art form of tap dance has taken her to Broadway, television, theatre, universities, workshops, and jazz venues throughout the world. She is considered a pioneer in the resurgence of tap dancing and is known fondly as “America’s First Lady of Tap.” Her talents are exemplary as a choreographer, performer, teacher, director, and mentor. She has been the recipient of numerous grants and awards and was also a participant in the Dance USA Task Force on Dance Education. As an internationally acclaimed woman in the field of tap dance, we honor her achievements and determined efforts in advocating this truly American art form.
