Speaker: R. Scott Kretchmar, The Pennsylvania State University–University Park, State College, PA
Social Event Planner: Gayle Claman, AAHPERD, Reston, VA
Eleanor Metheny was ahead of her time when she argued that non-verbal physical activities carried symbolic meaning and were, for that reason and others, intellectually impressive. Kretchmar will compare her theories on the symbolic process with what might be called the “conventional process.” He will also demonstrate why conventional logic rather than symbolic thinking can tell us more about the way intelligence evolved and the potentially impressive role games play in advancing human civilization.
